Volunteers can make a difference

There are many areas in our community that benefit tremendously from the help of volunteers, both young and old.

Information about specific requirements for volunteers can be placed on this page. If you have some projects in mind, let us know.

Some examples of voluntary activities that involve young people are given in the following extracts from the Witham Staple.

Bassingham Volunteers

Your village needs you! There are lots of events each year in Bassingham that need volunteers from the village to make them a success. Bassingham Volunteers are looking for people that are willing to get involved, whether with a large event like the Bonfire or with smaller ventures such as the Lifter Pick-ups. Volunteers need only be available for short periods of time, once or twice during the year, and all ages are welcome, as there’s something for everybody. Anyone interested in putting their name forward is asked to contact Mary Garner (Tel: 788956). [WS March 2004]

Example of Bassingham Village Tidy-Up By Volunteers

Following the success of the clean-up in June, it is planned to repeat this ..in ..September. Anyone interested should meet in the car park at 9.30 am. Gloves and bags will be provided. This is an ideal opportunity for children to join their parents and take part in something that is both fun and beneficial to their village at the same time. Anyone wanting more information is asked to contact Steve Gilman(Tel: 789072). Hope to see you there! [WS Sep 2003]

Bassingham Children’s Play Park

Volunteers are sought to help dig over the play park, which is overgrown again with weeds. The Parish Council will shortly re-bark the area and it would be good to give it a clean base. Anyone interested is asked to contact Steve Gilman (Tel: 789072). [WS Jul 2003]

Jobcentre Plus: progress2work

Current and ex-drug users can now take advantage of support into work, training or education. Progress2work is a new Jobcentre Plus initiative to provide employment support for people getting over a drug problem, who will receive specialist advice, guidance and support, helping them to explore their options and prepare them for the appropriate route to employment. Participants need to be committed to overcoming drug misuse and should be interested in work and training. The project is voluntary and confidential. For more information, telephone 520221.
